Sushisamba Miami Spice Scouting Report

The Samba Sush platter.
The Samba Sush platter.

What We Had: On our visit I had the Pork Belly Confit starter, a blend of textures with crispy nikuwan crouton; and flavors, with savory bits of pork meeting pickled watermelon and a guava glaze finish. For the entrees, the restaurant offers not three, but five dishes, with something for sushi fans, beef lovers and even vegetarians. To keep the pork belly theme going, I had the Samba Udon Bowl. The dish fuses kurobata pork belly with Japanese rice noodles in a bone broth dotted with green veggies and a slow cooked egg floating aloft. The dish was so filling I almost skipped dessert, but it could have also been the fact that I was eating from my husband’s Samba Sushi Plate starring the Sobe Roll, a Sushisamba signature roll with ebi shrimp, spicy crab and avocado. I didn’t even get a chance to sample the spicy salmon or tuna before I was shooed away. The dinner was punctuated with a Chocolate Banana Cake, which I was too stuffed to finish.

Who Should Go: This is a perfect date night spot; it’s Miami Beach scene-y enough to make you feel like you are in the center of the action. So ditch the kids. Maybe bring them back Sunday to try out the brunch menu. The Quinoa Pancakes sound amazing.
