Set in the Penthouse of the Raleigh just before the sun set, the Rip Curl show was all about the girl who loves idyllic beaches and surfing destinations. The collection featured lots of sexy black mesh paired with neons, grays, and geometric patterns along with crochet detailing and a splash of ikat print. Sleeved body suits were also a hit. The stunner of the night that brought loud house cheers and applause: a black mock neck one-piece with long sleeves and a neon yellow bodice, too stunning to leave on the sandy beaches.

Inspiration: The minimalist surfer girl and the sea

A trio of hula dancers kicked off the Mikoh swimwear presentation, with models clad in vibrant solid two pieces of tangerine, blue, and coral. More modern and minimalistic prints like the one found on a black and white palm print bandeau bikini, rounded up the sleek yet richly texturized silhouettes the Miller sisters are known for. Scattered amongst sexy sheer cover-ups of classic black mesh and fresh whites was the piece de resistance – a form-fitting black neoprene rubber wetsuit that takes the confident surfer girl to new heights.

Inspiration: Travel and sea sirens.

“The theme this year is ‘the search for your perfect water’ — I made it all about finding your favorite destination,” L*Space Designer Monica Wise said. The biggest trend for the California-based designer? “This season, I was focused on back details — honing in on the back of bikinis.” And Wise did just that by adding intricate crochet accents to the rears of her suits. The brand’s famous fringe details were the standout pieces here — and all eyes were on the models’ metallic gold Flash Tattoos (temporary ink). Color stories claiming peaches, browns, corals and blues also had their fair share of moments. “The feel here is very Siren of the Sea,” Wise added.

Imagine the sunset. Now imagine those deeply-hued oranges, fuschias and electric blues in swim and lounge wear. Oh, and throw in the always-right leopard prints. That’s the 2015 show in a nutshell, 44 pieces that reflected the beauty of the sun, palms and beach. In look after look — including lovely floor-length dresses — the designers paired sunsets, palms and fauna with graphic and Moschino-esque prints.

Inspiration: A journey into Guatemala and beyond.

“This year is all about color, trying to push things and take it to the next level,” designer Mara Hoffman said. Inspired by a recent trip to Guatemala, it’s evident the country — revered for its multihued textiles — left a tremendous impression on her. Macaw prints, palm tree patterns, tiger prints and Mayan Indian-inspired patterns peppered the runway. “Athletic-inspired silhouettes are really big this year,” she adds. Bodysuits were a welcomed addition to the collection and Hoffman’s airy dresses covered in vivid fringe were the fan favorites. “My collection in one word? It’s alive,” she added.

Inspired by the pure-bred equestrian world, the Colombia-based brand presented a perfectly styled peek into the Derby, a refreshing turn from typical beach fare. Royal Riders, an exquisite 56-piece collection of swim and active wear was brimming with equestrian-themed graphic prints, including horses and horse bits, ropes and tassels, library books and gingham. The show featured sleeved one-pieces, bikini bottoms with bustier and bandeau tops, floral printed crepe dresses, along with leggings and men’s trunks. It was hard not to fall in love with a runway show so perfectly presented: each model’s look was richly accessorized with equestrian helmets, leather gloves, varsity cardigans and the occasional leather riding whip. Champions in our book!
