How to celebrate Earth Day with beer (and other environmentally friendly stuff)
You want to save the Earth, don’t you? Seeing as how you live here and all? Well, good. Then you probably want to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, too.
Here are a few ways to do that here in Miami. And remember, if you don’t want to leave your house, it’s perfectly acceptable to stay home and drink wine. Just recycle the bottle.
1. Get environmental at the Botanical Garden
Get an early start on Earth Day from 5-10 Friday April 21 at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. There’s sunset yoga starting at 6:30 p.m. (bring your own mat and water); a presentation by Coral Morphologic, dedicated to preserving Miami’s coral; and an outdoor screening at 8 p.m. of the documentary “Before the Flood” from filmmaker Fisher Stevens and actor Leonardo di Caprio (Leo is celebrating by recycling supermodels and cannot attend). There will also be food and drink from Whole Foods and The Broken Shaker. $15 donation suggested; tickets here.

3. Drink beer at Concrete Beach
What better way to save the world than to drink beer? On April 22, $1 from every beer sold from 7-10 p.m. at Concrete Beach Brewery, 325 NW 24th St. in Wynwood, benefits the Surfrider Foundation Miami Chapter, dedicated to protecting the world’s oceans and beaches.
4. Use your hands at Wynwood Yard
At the epicenter of peace and love and healthy shizz in Wynwood, kick off Earth Day with free family yoga. After a few downward dogs, engage in happily hippie-ish activities like building your own terrarium, making art from recycled items and planting seeds in the garden. From noon to 5 p.m.
5. Kill invasive lionfish, the new white meat
In addition to offering 50 percent off admission on Earth Day (use promo code “earthday” to buy tickets), Miami Seaquarium is inviting fisherman to help rid the reefs of an aquatic pest at the 4earth Lionfish Derby. Don’t want to fish? You can taste lionfish – a non-native species that threatens our local habitat – at a community picnic. On April 23, join the Seaquarium’s cleanup of neighboring Hobie Beach from 8-10 a.m. and get free admission to the park.
