8 predictable and not-so predictable things to catch at the Locales Festival
If you’re a landmark in Miami long enough, turns out you get a pretty awesome festival to celebrate. For Bayside Marketplace, this means the first ever Locales Festival by Chef James Tahhan on Sunday. The event is doing double-duty with a party for the marketplace’s anniversary specifically and for Miami as the capital of Latin America in general.
What can you expect? Food and fireworks, of course. But the Locales Festival has some other not-so predictable treats in store, too.
1. PREDICTABLE: Food
Duh, right? Locales is putting the “food” in “festival” with samples from Panther Coffee, Mundo Cafe, Miami Smokers, Tradewinds and more.
But with free tastings, you might want to grab your tickets now.
Tickets: Children 12 and under FREE; 12-20 $25; Adults 21 and up $50; VIP options available

2. NOT-SO PREDICTABLE: Beer garden
The Locales Festival is also offering free beer and wine samples with the Florida International University Beer Science Program. Adults 21 and up will also gain access to a beer garden. A bar is also on site.
3. PREDICTABLE: Sports zone
Miami isn’t home to a bunch of sports teams for nothing. Hang out with representatives from the Miami Heat, Miami Marlins and Miami FC at the sports zone, which will include interactive games for the entire family.
4. NOT-SO PREDICTABLE: Free boat rides
Take a free ride on the Bayside Blaster boats, courtesy of the Locales Festival. The rides will be available throughout the day.
5. PREDICTABLE: Fireworks
End your amazing night at #LocalesFestival with #Fireworks to celebrate Bayside’s 30th Anniversary. For tix: https://t.co/TmZOzICTcK ? pic.twitter.com/5xBFkgOtaN

Thirty years is a long time for any Miami destination to exist. Now to arrange a firework show for my own 30th birthday.
6. NOT-SO PREDICTABLE: Mini film fest
Film X Locales will showcase the talents of local students looking to break into the film industry. Other student spotlights will include a culinary competition judged by Ana Quincoces and a fashion show by students of Miami International University of Art and Design.
Film X Locales will take place throughout the day.
The Locales fashion show is scheduled for 1 p.m. on the Main Stage.
Catch the Miami Culinary Institute Cook Off at 2 p.m. on the Main Stage.
7. PREDICTABLE: Mayor Tomás Regelado
The City of Miami mayor officially announced Locales Festival in a video message in March. He will take the secondary stage around 1 p.m.
8. NOT-SO PREDICTABLE: Overlooked star from "Moonlight"
Patrick Decile, 20, may have played the character who drew the most ire from fans of “Moonlight.” For some, the most gratifying moment of the Oscar-winning film was when Decile, as Terrel, was pummeled with a chair by the main character Chiron. But few know the South Florida native is a poet and music artist. He will perform at the festival’s second stage.
