The Wynwood Life festival of art, music, food and fashion is a week away. The event is a celebration of all things Wynwood and a gathering to rejoice in the diversity and eclectic mix that gives the neighborhood its personality. This year the party will take over the abandoned R. C. Cola plant, an old cola factory that now doubles as a gigantic canvas dowsed in graffiti letters, murals and street art. If that’s not enough to make you head out and check the space for yourself, below are the five reasons you should head over to the free street carnival this weekend.
This year there will be two stages activated with runway shows, art and music. See some of Miami’s greatest local acts like Afrobeta and Telekinetic Walrus as well as popular names like DJ Laz and The Ying Yang Twins all in one jam-packed weekend. The Twins are said to be headlining Friday night’s show and on Sunday acts like Bachaco and Suenalo will be closing the celebration. For the full lineup and schedule click here.
2. Live Art
If you’re into Art Basel or you’re an old school Wynwood brat then you surely remember what Second Saturdays were like. Galleries would open the doors to their spaces and welcome visitors to check out the art, sip on some cheap wine and eat a couple of blocks of cheese while staring deeply into the pieces hanging off the walls. Now that things have changed it may be harder to find galleries that do that but fear not. During the festival street artists and creatives alike will be painting on the spot for your viewing pleasure. To check out the full list click here.
Whatever way you want to look at it, fashion is always changing. To stay up to date with the latest trends and runway looks Wynwood Life is hosting a series of fashion shows in their Style Lounge. Local designers, long-legged models, fashionistas, bloggers and stylists will all be under one roof, giving you a chance to rack up some tips and tricks on how to stay up-to-the-minute with your look. Forget staying in and watching reruns of Food Network episodes. The Wynwood Culinary Showcase will feature food events and cooking demonstrations from foodie favorites like Midtown Oyster Bar, R House, and Sweet Liberty as well as one of the largest food truck rallies featuring more than 40 favorites. And to quench your thirst this year you’ll have plenty of options to pick from at the Wynwood craft beer garden, tequila cantina and the craft cocktail bar. Feast your eyes on the roster here and get a free drink with your rsvp.
In Miami we’re known for our great weather and cool beaches but we also have an amazingly friendly community. You never know who you’ll meet and it’s a free event where you can swap your VIP and bottle service experience for an event that’s local and Miami-centric.
