The Indestructible Lee Miller
Antony Penrose, biographer and son of trailblazing photographer Lee Miller, will give a lecture at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale Saturday, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. His talk is presented in conjunction with the opening of the museum’s new exhibition, The Indestructible Lee Miller, and will be followed by a special reception from 6 – 8 p.m. For tickets and information, call 954-525-5500 or visit nsuartmuseum.org. This exhibit, on view to the public from Oct. 4 – Feb. 14, 2016, explores Miller’s life (1907-1977) from multiple perspectives: as the assistant, collaborator and muse of Surrealist artist Man Ray in the 1930s to the pioneering fine art, fashion and combat photographer who produced some of the most unforgettable images of World War II and its aftermath.

The Bass Museum of Art launched its new satellite gallery space bassX, with a photo series by American artist Rachel Harrison. Voyage of the Beagle Two, 2008, is the first of seven artist projects that will be presented as bassX on the first floor of the Miami Beach Public Library, 227 22nd St., while the museum’s galleries are closed for renovation. Harrison’s work is a study of modern-day “menhirs,” which are prehistoric standing stones that represent the oldest figurative sculptures on earth. The artist initiated this project in 2006 during a trip to Corsica. Voyage of the Beagle, Two came about during a return trip in 2008. The exhibit is on view through Nov. 15. The Pictures in My Mind
Commenoz Gallery and National Art Exhibitions by the Mentally Ill (NAEMI) present The Pictures in My Mind: a group show featuring artworks by artists suffering from mental illness from Cuba and Latin America. New in Wynwood
Parmigiani Gallery in Wynwood unveils an exhibition by Colombian artist Efren Isaza. The opening reception for Isaza’s First Oeuvre, which was curated by M+V ART, is Tuesday Sept. 29, from 6 – 9 p.m. at 285 NW 26th St., Miami. The show includes pieces produced between 2009 and 2010, when Isaza embarked on the creative process that led him away from fashion photography and into the fine art world. In addition to the works on view at Parmigiani Gallery, more of Isaza’s work is on view at the Parmigiani Boutique located in the Design District’s Palm Court.
