Accessible Art: Faena Art Open Call and new exhibits at Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens

Faena Art Deadline

Faena Art invites creatives to submit original proposals for participation in the Opening Processional Performance on April 16, 2016. Ideas for installations, interventions, and interactive activities that engage South Florida’s diverse population are encouraged. The most inventive proposals will be included in the processional route through the Faena District in Miami Beach during the launch of Faena Forum, a new center for arts and culture designed by Rem Koolhaas/OMA. New at Morikami

Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is opening two new exhibitions to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the closing of the last Japanese American internment camp. Wendy Maruyama: Executive Order 9066 and Jimmy Tsutomu Mirikitani both explore art-making as a process of therapeutic healing, and will be on view from Friday, Oct. 9 to Jan. 31, 2016. Benefactor Trip to NYC

The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum are hosting 30 Benefactor members on a trip to New York for an exclusive weekend with Teresita Fernandez from Nov. 20 – 22. Guests will tour the Latin American Art Auction at Christie’s, the site-specific installation Fata Morgana and MOMA’s Picasso sculpture exhibition. Two private lunches and a cocktail reception at the Lehmann Maupin Gallery are included. Tickets are $500 per person and available to Frost Benefactors. Gallery Show in Wynwood

Leila Mordoch Gallery of Paris presents Remixing Media, a group show by three artists in photography, painting and sculpture—Miss. Average Joe Art Sale

The third annual Average Joe Art Sale at Yo Miami’s Yo Space gallery in Little Haiti is today (Sunday, Oct. 4) from 3 – 8 p.m. Prices for original pieces of art are fixed at $5 – $1,000 maximum. A new interactive mural by resident artist 8bitLexicon will be unveiled and guests will be treated to live music, local beer, and food trucks.
