Accessible Art: A Benjamin Cañas show at New World Gallery and #Saveartspace announces open call

Call for Artists

#Saveartspace, a non-profit dedicated to transforming traditional advertising platforms into public art, is holding an open call for artists residing in Florida. The selected art works will be included in an exhibition during Miami Art Week in Wynwood, Dec. 1 – 6, and billboards will be up from Nov. 23 – Dec. 20. Entries are due Oct. 28. Niurka Collection at MDC

Miami Dade College is showing the personal collection from the estate of Norma Niurka, a journalist, writer, and theater critic for the Miami Herald/El Neuvo Herald. The eclectic collection of works from Caribbean and Latin American artists was gifted to the school in 2013. It’s on view at the InterAmerican Gallery, 627 SW 27th Ave., Miami, through Dec. 4. New at New World Gallery

The opening reception for “Benjamin Cañas: A Selection of Works” is Thursday, Oct. 22 from 5 – 9 p.m. at New World Gallery, 25 NE 2nd St., Miami. The exhibition is part of New World School of the Arts’ permanent collection and was donated to the school more than five years ago by an anonymous benefactor, through the efforts of Rosario Martinez-Cañas, a graphic design professor at NWSA.
