Art aficionados can head over to the free Wynwood Art Walk on the evening of Saturday, Jan. 9, to see street performers, grab a bite from one of the many gourmet food trucks, photograph the famous Wynwood Walls and — of course — check out the art galleries and their opening night exhibitions.
A Fruitful 40 Years
Celebrating four decades, the annual Redland Heritage Festival at Fruit and Spice Park in South Dade on Saturday and Sunday offers a fun time for all. It’s a great event to hear live music, savor a variety of exotic fruits, make crafts, listen to local lore, and more. Miami On The Cheap has a deal for half off the admission price.
Toon Watching, Rock Climbing and more
Family Fun Day, a free monthly block party, will be this Saturday, Jan. 9, in Coral Gables. The area of Aragon Avenue on Salzedo Street in front of the Coral Gables Cinema, Coral Gables Museum and Books & Books will be closed for fun outdoor children’s activities including a rock-climbing wall, bounce house, face-painting and more. In addition, cartoons will be shown in the cinema, authors will read in the bookstore, and more activities are scheduled.
Season’s End in the West End
The magical holiday season officially ends with a free Three Kings celebration in the West End’s Olympic Park on Friday, Jan. 8, in honor of the magi who brought gifts for baby Jesus. See the holiday lights for the last time this season while the children participate in some fun activities.
Martial Arts and Tea
Learn about Japanese culture at a free winter festival on Sunday, Jan. 10, on Watson Island featuring martial arts demonstrations, a tea ceremony, drummers, authentic Japanese children’s games and more.
Paintings and Pottery
Paintings, sculptures, and pottery are among the art pieces showcased at the Las Olas Art Fair on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 9-10, in Fort Lauderdale. The popular free event exhibits dozens of artists along the street near the fine dining restaurants.
