The Basement Project, a new theater company in residence at Museum of Contemporary Art, 770 NE 125th St., North Miami, presents its inaugural production and the South Florida premiere of ‘Boom,’ a dark comedy by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb. Directed by Oleg Kheyfets and featuring original live music by Miami pop duo Afrobeta (Cuci Amador and Tony Smurfio, pictured), ‘Boom’ tells the story of two college students, Jo and Jules, played by Nicole Fernandez and Francisco Carreno, who meet online and plan a casual hook up that is thwarted by the apocalypse. The set and costumes from this distopian comedy are made largely from recycled materials and found objects. Shows are 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday through Jan. 23. Tickets are $18.50-$35 at thebasementproject.org or Eventbrite.com or 305-677-9200. Tickets are also good for complimentary same-day access to MoCA exhibits before Saturday shows and before or after Sunday performances.
