If you ring in 2016 with Pitbull and his pals at Bayfront Park on New Year’s Eve, you may want to take it easy this weekend.
Here are some of this weekend’s events:
Go where the wild things are
Take advantage of discounted admission at Jungle Island, like $6 off with a Pet Supermarket receipt, and spend the day at the interactive zoological park on Watson Island. The park’s Wild Holiday celebration, which ends Jan. 3, includes a variety of festive activities, including parades with the park’s wild animal friends, arts & crafts, scavenger hunts through the jungle and much more.
Listen to the sounds of bluegrass
The South Florida Bluegrass Association holds a free bluegrass festival and acoustic jam the first Sunday of the month from 12:30 to 5 p.m. at Greynolds Park in North Miami Beach. While the music is free, park admission is $6 per car. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket. Food and drink will be available.
Rides at the farm
If you buy a groupon, you can visit Pinto’s Farm in South Dade at 46 percent off the regular price for two or four tickets. The farm has rides, a playground, bounce house and petting zoo the kids will enjoy. The farm currently has a Winterland theme for the holiday season that likely will come down after this weekend.
Groovin’ at the Grove
Get your fill of cultural fun during the return of F.A.M. (Fashion Arts Music) night on the first Saturday of the month in Coconut Grove along Grand Avenue, Commodore Plaza, Main Highway and Fuller Street from 6 to 9 pm. Enjoy live music, new art exhibitions and fashion trends.
Last chance for the holidays
This is the last weekend to take advantage of holiday displays before they get turned off at places like Pinecrest Gardens, Zoo Miami, and Dolphin Mall, to name a few. See our list of holiday events.
Free live entertainment with The Baboons
Free live music performances are offered outdoors Saturday nights at parks in Hollywood with The Baboons, whose sounds are described as Afro-Cuban funk n roll, performing Jan. 2.
