National YoungArts Week

Jan. 3-10

Where: Various venues throughout Miami

This event brings together approximately 170 young artists from the visual, literary, design and performing arts for workshops, classes and intense mentoring with experts in their fields which culminates in a series of screenings, art exhibits and performances.

Miami City Ballet: Program II – In the Upper Room

Jan. 8-10

Where: Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, 1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami

Miami’s celebrated ballet troupe performs Twyla Tharp’s signature work set to Philip Glass’ postmodern score along with other selections.

Redland Heritage Festival

Jan. 9-10

Where: Fruit & Spice Park, 24801 SW 187th Ave., Homestead

Celebrate the 40th year of this tradition with local arts and crafts, historical exhibits, a large selection of tropical plants, food, a petting zoo, pony rides, magic shows, and an interactive Everglades wildlife show.

Miami Jewish Film Festival

Jan. 14-28

A line-up of more than 40 film premieres, plus an additional 35 shorts.

Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival

Jan. 15-17

Where: Hyatt Regency Miami, 400 SE Second Ave., Miami

The third season of this festival offers 60 features and short films, awards, explore social gamer fandom, discuss scientific topics.

Art Deco Weekend

Jan. 15-17

Where: Ocean Drive between Fifth and 13th, Miami Beach

Celebrate the best of Art Deco at this three-day festival featuring vendors, film screenings, lectures, classic cars, a street parade, children’s area, filmmaker discussions and more.

Beaux Arts Festival

Jan. 16-17

Where: The University of Miami campus, Coral Gables

Miami’s oldest juried fine arts show, the 65th annual edition of the Beaux Arts Festival features over 220 fine art exhibitors, live music in the Main-stage tent, the Family Fun Zone and more.

Gay8 Festival

Jan. 17

Where: Southwest Eighth Street from 14th to 17th Avenues, Miami

Get ready for the first Latino LGBT art, music and food street festival in Miami’s historic Little Havana, with some of Miami’s most celebrated musical talent including bands like Palo!, Suénalo, Picadillo and the Spam Allstars.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Jan. 19

Where: Fillmore Miami Beach at The Jackie Gleason Theater, 1700 Washington Ave., Miami Beach

The hip-hop duo from Seattle comes to the Magic City to perform hits like “Thrift Shop,” “Can’t Hold Us,” “Same Love,” and their 2015 monster hit “Downtown.”

Screendance Miami: Dance on Film Festival

Jan. 21-23

Where: Various venues throughout Miami

This Tigertail-produced festival offers workshops, panels and screenings that highlight national, international and Miami-based choreographers and filmmakers who are working with emerging and new concepts to capture movement and dance on film and video. 

Homestead Championship Rodeo

Jan. 22-24

Where: Doc’ DeMilly Rodeo Arena at Harris Field, U.S. 1 and Southwest 312th Street in Homestead

Homestead Championship Rodeo and Rodeo Days bring together the toughest competitors for bare-back and saddle bronco riding, tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling, cowgirls’ barrel racing and the crowd favorite, bull riding.

International Chocolate Festival

Jan. 22-24

Where: Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Rd., Coral Gables

Three decadent days of chocolate with chef demonstrations, lectures, a Choco-Walk, plant sales and more.

Florida Grand Opera’s “Norma”

Jan. 23-30

Where: Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, 1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami

Vincenzo Bellini’s masterpiece about love and betrayal in times of war comes to life with a production featuring sopranos Mlada

Khudoley and Mary Elizabeth Williams rotating the role of Norma.


Jan. 23-24

Where: AmericanAirlines Arena, 601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami

Madge makes up for her missed dates in August, bringing her latest tour to Miami for two nights where she will go into her songbook from albums past plus her latest “Rebel Heart.”

Miami Beach Jazz Festival

Jan. 25-30

Where: Various venues throughout Miami

This year’s festival features performances by a variety of artists including the Daniel Zamir Quartet, Sinkope, Philippe Leoge, Markus Gottschlich Trio, Joe Carter Trio and James Morrison. 

Plácido Domingo

Jan. 28

Where: AmericanAirlines Arena, 601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami

Living legend Spanish tenor performs a selection of well-known songs from his repertoire, hits from Broadway musicals as well as all-time audience favorites including “Granada” and “Bésame Mucho.”
