Honoring Ruth Shack
The Cultural Champion Award 2016 will honor pioneer Ruth Shack for her dedication to elevating Miami to an arts destination from 1976-1986. Many of the era’s most important cultural milestones were championed by Shack, such as sponsoring the County’s first historic preservation ordinance, and urging municipalities to recognize the value of significant resources like South Beach’s Art Deco District. From 1985-2009, Shack served as president of the Dade Community Foundation, now The Miami Foundation, where she spearheaded the development of a permanent endowment to meet Greater Miami’s emerging charitable needs. Gibralter Private Bank & Trust will present the award Tuesday, Feb. 9 at a private location.
