An Art Deco hotel is opening a new beach club and restaurant on South Beach.

Opening Saturday is Solei Beach Club at the Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel, a boutique property on Collins Avenue. Open to the public as well as hotel guests, Solei Beach Club offers outdoor dining, ocean breezes and the hope you’ll be able to imagine you’re in coastal Spain.

Executive chef Gaston Javier Sanchez leads the kitchen, which aims to match the hotel’s vibe.

“My inspiration is rooted in the spirit of the Mediterranean — its rich diversity, vibrant culture and timeless sense of enchantment — fused seamlessly with the energy and flavors of South Florida,” he said. “It’s about bringing that global coastal essence right here to our Miami Beach backyard, creating something that feels both transportive and deeply local.”

A beach club is by description an outdoor, daytime spot, and that’s what Solei Beach Club is, a restaurant that serves lunch and early dinner. You can sit under the open air thatched-roof parada, under an umbrella, in the sun or reserve a cabana.

The menu, from executive chef Gaston Javier Sanchez, is created for sharing.

There’s a raw bar with oysters, ceviche and the Seafood Colosseum with oysters, lobster, mussels, clams and the ceviche of the day with caviar. There’s also a menu of small snacks, with mezzes like hummus, tzatziki, whipped feta, falafel, halloumi, artichoke and eggplant. Other shared bites include oxtail empanadas, shrimp and lime chicken wings.

There are also large plates, and you can share them, too (or not). Choices include shrimp and chicken paella, tahini salmon, lobster rolls and a watermelon “chess” salad, with the fruit cut into squares.

The cocktail menu is designed to be refreshing, as you’d expect at a beach club. The Spicy Señorita blends mezcal and tequila blanco, while the Italian margarita uses Campari and Cointreau. The Ibiza Sunset blends strawberry, passionfruit and lime, while the frozen Passion du Solei is what the Surfcomber calls a private blend. You’ll find the classics here, too.

The restaurant, which seats 75 guests, sprawls across 11,500 square feet. Bring your appetite — and sunscreen.
