Beloved Palm Beach restaurants finally announce opening dates for Coral Gables

One of the most highly-praised restaurants in Palm Beach County is ready to reveal its empire to Coral Gables.

The Ember Group — Sam Slattery, Piper Quinn and James Beard Award-nominated chef Clay Conley — has set the dates for some of the most anticipated openings of the year: the Michelin-recognized Buccan, the Japanese spot Imoto and Buccan Sandwich Shop at 100 Miracle Mile.

Opening first on Saturday, May 9, is Buccan Sandwich Shop, a grab-and-go lunch concept that specializes in sandwiches like the popular beef carpaccio with arugula, Parmesan, crispy onions, mayo, lemon vinaigrette, as well as turkey club, Cubano and Buffalo chicken sandwiches.

The first sandwich shop opened in 2014 in Palm Beach and added a second location in West Palm Beach in 2023.

On May 22, Buccan — the jewel of the Ember crown — will begin to welcome diners. Credited for kickstarting the growing Palm Beach food scene since its opening in 2011, the restaurant is famous for what it calls American small plates like short rib empanadas, spicy pork tacos, and sweet corn agnolotti.

“The vision for Miami is the same as in Palm Beach…a warm, welcoming, neighborhood place,” chef/partner Conley explained. “Exceptional cuisine and service, enjoyed in a casually sophisticated ambiance. “

Buccan’s ambiance is considerable. The restaurant quickly gained a reputation not only for its creative menu but as a chic spot to dine — and see and be seen. Last June, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were spotted there right around the same time they attended a Florida Panthers Stanley Cup game together.

The third Ember Group restaurant, scheduled to open June 1, is Imoto, another small plate spot that specializes in sushi and other Asian bites. Imoto features a sushi bar and its own cocktail menu.

Ember Group partner Slattery said that the Gables is the perfect spot to expand the brand.

“After 12 years in Palm Beach, we’ve been waiting for the right location,” he said. “100 Miracle Mile’s central location and its mix of dining, retail, and office space make it the perfect home for Buccan and our other concepts.”
