This quirky Cuban restaurant just opened a new location in South Miami

A locally owned Cuban restaurant has opened its third location, in South Miami.

Bored Cuban, which first opened in 2024 at 831 NW 42nd Ave. in Miami, is now open on Sunset Drive, bringing with it fast-casual offerings, a quintessentially Miami coffee menu — and Bored Cuban merchandise built around the owner’s NFT.

Founder Eric Castellanos, also the force behind Latin Cafe 2000 and now the seafood restaurant Catch of the Day, considers the new Bored Cuban his neighborhood spot.

“To bring Bored Cuban to South Miami, near the community that shaped me, is incredibly meaningful,” he said. “We built this brand around Miami culture. Now we get to serve it at home.”

Bored Cuban, which also has a pop-up in the Brickell Latin Cafe 2000, offers all of the favorites you’ll find at the other locations: pixas (flatbreads) in a variety of options, including hot honey with tomato sauce, mozzarella and cantimpalo (chorizo); the Cubana (ham, shredded pork, mozzarella, pickles and a mustard base); chicken vaca frita (tomato sauce, chicken with onion mojo, mozzarella and cilantro aioli drizzle); lechon (with chimichurri sauce, slow roasted pork, sweet plantains and mozzarella); and vaca frita (grilled shredded beef, sweet plantains and mozzarella).

There are also sandwiches including pan con lechon, pan con bistec and El Pio Pio, a spicy chicken sandwich, as well as the popular 305 bowl with white rice, black beans, mixed greens, sweet plantains and a choice of protein. Creative diners can also make up their own bowls.

The new item for South Miami are the Cuban Classics platters, which include palomilla steak, vaca frita and lechon asado, including two sides.

Breakfast is also available every morning, with wraps, bowls and sandwiches, and the bake shop offers grab-and-go goods like empanadas, croquetas, croissants, pan de bono, pastelitos and the famous Cuban Pop Tart with guava and cheese.

The restaurant, which like its predecessor is filled with murals from Miami-based artist @Friks84, is open now but hosts a ribbon cutting on 305 Day (at, of course, 3:05 p.m. March 5). The first 100 guests that day get a free 305 bowl and can take photos with the brand’s ape mascot Manolo, who is modeled after the bored-looking ape of Castellanos’ NFT image.
