This nationally famous ice cream spot from Oregon is now open in Aventura

Salt & Straw has made its way north to Aventura.

The ice cream brand from Oregon, which has locations in Wynwood, Coconut Grove and Lincoln Road in Miami Beach, has just opened in Aventura at The Abbey (formerly known as the Esplanade at Aventura next to the Aventura Mall). The Abbey is an open-air retail and dining space that includes the Peruvian restaurant Jarana, the Italian-Patagonian spot Amalfi Llama and STK Steakhouse.

Founded by Kim and Tyler Malek, Salt & Straw features a menu of 13 classic flavors like sea salt caramel ribbons, honey lavender and Arbequina olive oil as well as Florida exclusives like Panther Coffee Chocolate Tres Leches and The Salty Donut Guava + Cheese (which, for the record, is irresistible).

There are also monthly seasonal flavors on offer. This month the theme is chocolate, with flavors like chocolate almond gold bar (with bars from Fran’s Chocolates chopped and tossed in salted vanilla ice cream with ribbons of burnt caramel and dark chocolate stracciatella; cake batter chocolate fudge; chocolate toasted buttermilk torte; raspberry white chocolate cheesecake and a vegan cocoa nib root beer float

The shop is offering a couple of specials for its opening weekend. On Saturday, Jan. 31, buy a scoop, say “make it a double” at check out and get a second scoop free. On Sunday, Feb. 1, order a scoop and get a kids’ scoop free, along with a coloring book.

Kim Malek says the brand appreciates Aventura’s “community-oriented” spirit.

“There’s a real pride and sense of belonging in Aventura, and that’s something we deeply connect with,” she said in a statement. “We love creating spaces where everyone feels welcome.”
