The best doughnuts in South Florida arrived in Miami at the end of 2024, launching three locations and promising sweet mornings and many flavors.

Now, less than a year later, all three Miami-Dade locations of The Hollywood Donut Factory have closed.

Owned and operated by the brother and sister team of Bobby and Kat Palushaj, The Hollywood Donut Company moved into the former Mojo Donuts locations on Bird Road, in Coral Gables across U.S. 1 from the University of Miami and in Kendall’s El Car Wash.

The brand, which has locations in Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale, is known for its variety of flavors and huge doughnuts (they’re so big, they require the largest to-go boxes manufacturers make). The most popular flavors in Broward include the simple glazed, Boston cream and sour cream, which comes in plain, blueberry and salted caramel flavors. The brand also makes dulce de leche, guava and cheese and mango-stuffed doughnuts that seemed destined to be hits further south.

But it was not meant to be in Miami. The owners confirmed that all three locations are now closed but declined to speak further about it. The Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale shops remain open.

In December, Bobby Palushaj told the Miami Herald he was really looking forward to becoming part of the community in Miami. Kat Palushaj envisioned that, too, imagining a similar scenario to what you’ll find in the Hollywood shop: regulars gathering, ordering coffee and breakfast and chatting with her about their days.

“Miami is bigger and busier than Hollywood, but we want to get to know people by name,” Bobby Palushaj said. “Miami is the mecca of America right now. It’s literally a dream come true to provide a product and service to this community.”
