Three friends from Paris and a lauded Miami sushi chef have opened a stylish new handroll bar in Wynwood.

Pari Pari is the brainchild of Benjamin Chemouny, Hugo Dayan and Edouard Benitah, who aimed to create an atmosphere that was elegant and yet also comfortable, a place for a quick lunch or a lengthier dinner with 25 counter seats — and a lot of ambition.

The menu was created by Chef Yasu Tanaka, celebrated in Miami for Sushi Yasu Tanaka in the Design District (with a second location in downtown Miami). If you listen to sushi lovers around town, they’ll swear Chef Yasu’s creations are every bit as good as some of the Michelin-starred omakase experiences at a fraction of the price. This is not surprising as the chef worked at Ginza Iwa, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Tokyo for two years.

The menu at Pari Pari, which translates roughly to “crispy crispy” in Japanese, includes three set combinations to order from as well as ala carte items. Sashimi appetizers include hamachi jalapeno with ponzu and chimichurri; salmon carpaccio with passion fruit shiso and cripsy onion; and tuna carpaccio with garlic oil and wasabi.

The handrolls, not surprisingly, are the stars. The menu offers classics like salmon avocado, akami tuna cucumber and toro taku, but don’t sleep on the intriguing signature rolls: A5 wagyu aburi; spicy scallops and cucumber; toro caviar; uni toro and uni wagyu. The handrolls run from $8-$22.

This being Miami, you can also add a caviar bump to any roll.

But Chef Yasu isn’t the only familiar name you’ll find in connection with Pari Pari. French pastry chef Yann Couvreur, whose patisserie is located a few blocks away in Wynwood, has created a dessert menu of French-Japanese desserts like a mango, coconut and passion fruit cake and black sesame ice cream topped with matcha and served with Liger’s chocolate chip cookie.
