Did your Miami Burger King ‘smell like sewage’ in the seating area?
Sewage stink, swarming flies and water problems overhead and underfoot caused a state inspector to close a Burger King in Miami Shores last week.
The inspector, who stopped by 9090 Biscayne Blvd. Thursday on a routine inspection, found 20 total violations and three High Priority violations.

“Accumulation of black/green mold-like substance in the interior of the ice machine/bin.”
And the inspector saw standing water near that ice machine, as well as across from the fryers and by the walk-in cooler.
Perhaps part of the problem was the “water leaking from the mop sink faucet by a storage area.”

Water also leaked from the “soiled” ceiling by the dining area.
“Smells like sewage at the dining area” falls under “objectionable odors in bathroom or other areas of the establishment.”
If you washed your hands in the men’s restroom, good luck drying them as the restroom contained no paper towels or blow dryer.
Flies swarmed the lobby (approximately 28); the front counter across from the french fries station (20); and the drive-thru floor drains (15). Quintets of flies checked out the soda machine near drive-thru; tables in the dining area; a prep table front counter; the office; and the three-compartment sink.
“Observed cut, raw onions containers stored under the sanitizer and the soap by the three-compartment sink prep area table.”
During Friday’s initial re-inspection, there remained “water leaking at the ceiling by the dining area” and flies at the dining area and drive-thru.
A second callback inspection on Friday got this BK back open for weekend business.
