One of Miami’s favorite chefs has a new venture on the horizon: an upscale Italian steak house in a huge new Wynwood development.

Chef Giorgio Rapicavoli, the chef behind some of the most popular restaurants in Coral Gables and Coconut Grove, will open Luca Steak at Wynwood Plaza, a 1 million square-foot development by L&L Holding Company and Oak Row Equities.

The 4,500-square-foot restaurant at 95 NW 29th St. will be located at the base of the development’s office tower, with almost 2,000 square feet of outdoor space next to a 26,000-square-foot public plaza. A paseo will wind through art installations, trees and other landscaping.

Rapicavoli, who was born and raised in Miami, called the plan a great chance to grow.

“It’s a special opportunity to continue my own growth within Miami by expanding the Luca Osteria Brand with the addition of Luca Steak,” he said in a statement. “As an American of Italian descent, Luca Steak will represent a traditional Italian Steakhouse with a sophisticated design fitting of the Miami restaurant landscape.”

Rapicavoli, the first Miami chef to win Food Network’s “Chopped,” is best known for his restaurants Eating House and Luca Osteria in Coral Gables. In 2024, he took over the famous Mayfair Grill restaurant at the iconic Mayfair House Hotel & Garden.

Luca Steak is the first retailer announced for the development, which is expected to open this year. The plan is to populate the development with lifestyle boutiques, storefronts and fast-casual spots. Luca Steak is scheduled to open in 2026.
