After 17 years on Miami Beach, this luxury steakhouse is closing its doors
For almost 20 years, the sophisticated steakhouse Red South Beach wowed tourists and locals alike with prime cuts of meat and succulent seafood like lobster and Alaskan king crab.
Now, the upscale Red has closed, ending its time at 801 South Pointe Drive in the South of Fifth neighborhood.
First opened in 2008 and led by owner and executive chef Peter Vauthy, the restaurant made the announcement over the weekend, inviting guests in to “make one more memory together.” The final night of service was Saturday.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Red South Beach is closing its doors,” a post on Instagram said.
The post went on to thank the dedication of diners who stuck with them over the years.
“From the moment we opened, you welcomed us — not just as your favorite neighborhood steakhouse, but as part of your lives,” it said. “You have become our family, and the memories we have created together will forever be part of who we are.”
The post also reported that “after months of trying,” the restaurant was unable to reach an agreement with the landlord to continue to operate Red South Beach at its current location.
“While we don’t know what the future holds, this is not goodbye forever,” the post read. “We are simply closing this chapter. . . . We look forward to the day our paths cross again.”
Over the years, Red earned numerous accolades for its cuisine, among them being named the no. 1 Best Surf & Turf in America and America’s Top 10 Steakhouses by The Daily Meal and the no. 1 Best Restaurant in Miami Beach and Best Steakhouse by Time Out Miami. In 2019, the City of Miami Beach recognized Vauthy as one of the top chefs shaping the city’s culinary scene.
