Service at a Hialeah Pollo Tropical Express came to a halt after a state inspection closed the location for a day last week.

Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation inspectors swung by 7401 W. Fourth Ave. (Red Road) on Tuesday for a routine inspection and found five total violations, two of which were High Priority. Though that’s not a high volume of High Priority violations, both involved living vermin: roaches and flies.

Two live roaches were on the floor under a food preparation table. Another duo of live roaches hung out on the wall behind a reach-in cooler.

Two flies were by the service window and another two were in the dry storage room.

A bag of onions sat directly on the kitchen floor instead of being at least six inches above the floor.

The walk-in cooler’s fan was covered in dirt.

There was ice buildup in the walk-in freezer.

This Pollo reopened after passing re-inspection on Wednesday.
