A roach on a yogurt dispenser, mold and other inspection problems at a Kendall restaurant
Checking out a frozen yogurt dispenser used by customers of a Kendall establishment, a state inspector saw a roach sashaying across the equipment.
That’s not all the inspector spotted when dropping by Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, 15798 SW 56th St., and not the only reason Menchie’s was closed after failing the Dec. 2 inspection. Passing the callback inspection the following day got Menchie’s back in business, but this wasn’t just getting caught on a bad day — this inspection spawned from a complaint with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Here’s some of the inspection’s other 20 violations, one of which was High Priority.
The inspector counted 11 dead roaches, including two under the yogurt machines at a back prep area and seven “inside cabinets under the yogurt toppings area at the customer self serve area.”
Speaking of that customer self-service area, “one live roach was crawling on the yogurt dispenser at the customer self service area” and “one live roach resting on the floor underneath the yogurt machines at the back preparation area.”
Near the entrance to the prep area, 10 flies were in a pest control device. Inspectors prefer those get emptied once in a while.

The front counter handwash sink missed for the cycle: no blower to dry hands, no paper towels, no soap and no hot-enough water. The water has to reach at least 85 degrees and could get to only 80.
The walk-in cooler shelves were “soiled with a mold-like substance.” The cooler’s floor was described as “soiled.” Outside the walk-in cooler, standing water covered the floor.
The outside of the yogurt dispensers and the shelves over the three-compartment sink were “soiled with food debris.”
There was a “heavy accumulation of a slimy substance and old food debris underneath the yogurt dispensers at the back preparation area.”
In front of the yogurt topping bar at the customer self-service area, the “floor was soiled with a sticky substance...”
The dining room ceiling/ceiling tiles/vents were “soiled with accumulated food debris, grease, dust, or mold-like substance.”
