Hand-washing issues and pooping rodents at a downtown Miami restaurant, inspector says
Rodent droppings shut down a downtown Miami restaurant after a failed state inspection on Friday.
There weren’t many other problems at Rigatti’s Cafe, 100 S. Miami Ave., which had 10 total violations, two of which were High Priority violations. But the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation inspector found enough to close the restaurant and caterer on Friday.
Most prominently, the inspector counted 28 pieces of rodent regularity, 23 of which were “in the middle cabinet of the front service line” and one was “in the middle drawer above a cabinet at the front service station.” Four more were on top of the dishwasher.
Dead roaches were found under the three-compartment sink (one) and a cabinet in the front coffee-making station (one).
Employees using the handwash sink near the food prep area or anyone using the women’s restroom could wash their hands. But they’d have to use a shirt or flap their hands to dry them because there were no paper towels at either place.
Inside the prep area microwave oven and the bottom of the regular oven found themselves under the violation of having an “accumulation of black substance/grease/food debris.”
Rigatti’s isn’t open on Saturdays, but online records say the restaurant opened Saturday to the inspector and passed callback inspection.
