You won’t be able to visit ground zero for your favorite hand-ground blue corn tortillas on South Beach for much longer.

Taquiza South Beach is closing at the end of June.

The restaurant at 1351 Collins Ave. announced the news on its Instagram account.

“This decision was not an easy one, but we believe it is the right step for our team and the future of Taquiza,” the post said.

The post went on to thank guests for all the good times.

“We want to express our deepest gratitude to all our amazing customers, friends, and supporters who have made this journey possible. For the past several years, we’ve had the incredible opportunity to serve our delicious tacos, sip on refreshing margaritas, and create memories in this vibrant community. It’s been an absolute honor to be part of your lives and to witness the joy and satisfaction our food has brought to your faces.”

Created by Chef Steve Santana, a disciple of Chef Norman Van Aken, Taquiza started its South Beach life as a hidden taco spot at the HI Miami Beach Hostel in 2014, where it ground its own blue corn for tortillas and ended up sourcing them to restaurants around Miami.

It also opened Taquiza North Beach at 7450 Ocean Terrace directly across from the bandshell and became one of the first vendors at The Citadel food hall in Miami’s Little River neighborhood.

The Citadel location is gone, but the North Beach restaurant will remain open.

Santana also joined forces with Adam Darnell, the wizard behind the beloved craft beer spot Boxelder, to open Off Site, a Little River brewpub known for its fried chicken, hot dogs and burgers.
