If you are a fan of spicy food and enjoy a nice atmosphere, your next stop should be Hutong, a vibrant restaurant in Brickell. Above the bar is Hutong’s own version of the Great Wall of China with 70 feet of hand-carved Chinese doors and wood panels, which were brought from China.

After taking in the scenery, get ready to savor the typical dishes in Hutong, where they serve dim sum, small shared entrees. On this visit we tasted pork dumplings, Wagyu beef millefeuille and scallops with vegetables.

The most popular dish, the Peking roast duck, is quite an experience. The chef comes to the table and arranges the delicate cuts of meat with a delicious plum sauce. The whole duck is carefully prepared over 24 hours following a traditional recipe said to have been made for the Emperor over a hundred years ago, resulting in a duck that is crispy on the outside with meat that remains moist, tender and flavorful.

Hutong has restaurants in Hong Kong, Beijing and London, and arrived in Miami as the second location in the United States after opening in New York City in 2019. Traditional Chinese elements are perfectly offset by splashes of bright pop-art colors - fuchsia, turquoise and lime green chairs that stand out in the colorful city of Miami.

Finish the experience with something sweet to culminate the meal. Hutong offers a variety of desserts to satisfy your cravings.

And don’t forget to order one of the exotic cocktails infused with Chinese herbs and spices. Try the Qin Emperor made with reposado mezcal, dried green peppercorns from Szechuan, pomegranate juice, lavender essence, citrus and egg white. The bright purple cocktail is reminiscent of the lavender hue used to decorate pottery during the Qin and Han dynasties.
