Sewage gushed from several drains at a Miami-area Fresh Market during state inspection
The recurring phrase on the most recent state inspection report of The Fresh Market in Aventura: “Sewage overflowing.”
When inspectors Kaitlyn Ford and Pedro Llanos dropped by the store at 18299 Biscayne Blvd. on Wednesday, they found a widespread plumbing problem.
In the bakery: “Sewage overflowing from the floor drain under the three-compartment sink.”
In the seafood area: “Sewage overflowing from the floor drain near the seafood service counter.”
In the backroom: “Sewage overflowing from the mop sink next to the produce department.”
In the deli: “Sewage overflowing from the floor drain under the three-compartment sink.”
And, in the retail area, where people walk and shop: “Sewage overflowing from the drains in the grocery area.”
The inspection report says, “All open food processing was immediately stopped and all open food items were voluntarily discarded.”
While the plumbing was fixed, “processing areas were cleaned, sanitized, and verified prior to close of visit.”
Still, inspectors will return before Nov. 2 to re-inspect the Fresh Market location.
Unlike state restaurant inspections, failed inspections of supermarkets, convenience stores and other food sellers and handlers don’t shut down the establishment. The Fresh Market remains open.
