Food podcast: Cuban restaurant royalty, Bourdain’s wrestling match, more pizza talk

We have a lot to catch up on in the food world.

On the Sept. 8 episode of La Ventanita, the Miami Herald food podcast, it’ll be an all-banter show. My co-host Amy Reyes and I will dig into all the juicy bits of food news to come out of the 305 in the last week.

Among the topics:

  • Larios, which made my favorite Cuban food in Miami, is back — sort of. The couple who founded the original Casa Larios restaurant is cooking again somewhere totally unexpected.
  • We’ve completed our food hall dining and our colleague Connie Ogle is tallying the results. We discuss our latest re-visit, Timeout Market on South Beach
  • Did you catch Jeremy Ford talking about how he wrestled Anthony Bourdain in jiu jitsu in last week’s episode? We have to talk more about that.
  • How is the voting going for the internet’s favorite Miami pizza? Amy will update us. (I have my favorites.)
  • Plus and update on La Planchita, my Odyssean quest to turn a fantastic commercial sandwich press into a showpiece for my kitchen.
  • And we’ve reached the halfway point for Miami Spice. We discuss the places we still want to hit.

Tune in Thursdays at 11 a.m. to watch La Ventanita live on YouTube and the Miami Herald website. Find every episode of La Ventanita podcast at the show page and on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Megaphone, Stitcher and MiamiHerald.com.
