Food podcast: This Miami-raised chef’s Little Haiti restaurant earned a Michelin star

Luciana Giangrandi’s star has finally risen.

The Miami-raised chef saw the Little Haiti restaurant she owns with co-chef Alex Meyer, Boia De, recognized with a star from Miami’s first Michelin Guide. Just look for the neon exclamation point in the strip mall where it has been defying expectations for the last three years.

On the June 23 episode of La Ventanita, the weekly Miami Herald food podcast, we talk with Luci, as she’s known to her friends, about her one-time aspirations as a food writer to an all-out career in restaurants, where she was nominated for a James Beard Award as the best chef in the South.

Her career took her to the Scarpetta kitchen of “Chopped!” judge Scott Conant. Then to Tuscany to continue learning Italian cooking while working with New York’s Carbone, to Japan, Mexico — and to a tiny taco trailer in the Design District, La Pollita, where she and Meyer first made a name for themselves four years ago.

Tune in Thursdays at 11 a.m. to watch La Ventanita live on YouTube and the Miami Herald website. Find every episode of La Ventanita podcast at the show page and on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Megaphone, Stitcher and MiamiHerald.com.
