Herald food podcast: Miami’s chef Michael Schwartz talks Michelin, James Beard
Restaurants lucky enough to be open for 15 years ultimately face a choice: Motor on with the same food they’ve served for the lifetime of a Disney Channel child star, open an entirely new restaurant with a new concept, or do what Michael Schwartz did with the restaurant that brought life to the Design District more than a decade ago: Reinvent.
Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink managed to win every major award (including for the chef) from the James Beard Foundation and Bon Appetit to Esquire and the New York Times and last summer, Michael closed up shop to create something totally fresh and new.
This week on La Ventanita, we talk to Michael Schwartz, the pioneering chef that made the Design District a culinary destination, and kept reinventing new ways to keep Miami excited about food.
We also discuss
- James Beard Awards (someone we know got one)
- Michelin Awards, Miami has the only two-star restaurant in Florida
Tune in Thursdays at 11 a.m. to watch La Ventanita live on YouTube and the Miami Herald website, comment and ask questions during the interview. Find every episode of La Ventanita podcast at the show page and on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Megaphone, Stitcher and MiamiHerald.com.
