A Philadelphia restaurant is opening a new location at Wynwood Walls in Miami
The restaurant at Wynwood Walls is about to get new life — in the form of a celebrity chef.
Philadelphia-based chef Michael Schulson will be opening the second location of his restaurant Double Knot in the former Wynwood Kitchen & Bar space, according to real estate development firm Goldman Properties, which owns the property.
The original Double Knot, also located in a Goldman Properties building in Philly’s Midtown Village, features a coffee shop on the main floor that turns into a cocktail lounge at night, with a secret izakaya and sushi restaurant underneath (an izakaya is an informal Japanese bar). Philadelphia Magazine named it the city’s best new restaurant in 2016, and it was honored as a Top 15 Restaurant Openings the same year by Zagat.
Scott Srebnick, CEO of Goldman Properties, praised Schulson as a “brilliant restaurateur.”
“We have long admired Michael and his restaurants; he elevates food to an art form so he is the perfect fit to complement the experience at the Wynwood Walls,” he said in a statement. “At Goldman Properties, we feed the neighborhood — with food and drink, with art, with investing in street life, and we cannot wait for Double Knot and Michael Schulson to start feeding Wynwood next.”
The restaurant, which like its predecessor will serve sushi and pan-Asian cuisine, is attached to the urban graffiti museum that draws visitors from around the world. It will be around 4,500 square feet with an outdoor patio adjacent to murals by Shepard Fairey and other artists. It’s scheduled to open in early 2023.
Wynwood Walls, which opened in 2009, is the brainchild of developer Tony Goldman. His daughter Jessica Goldman Srebnick is the curator of Wynwood Walls.
