This Southern brunch pop up was a local favorite. It’s back in a new Little River restaurant

Rosie’s Southern food pop up was too good not to make a comeback.

The couple Akino West and Jamila Ross have relaunched Rosie’s brunch concept in the Little River lot behind what will eventually become the restaurant’s future home.

Rosie’s: The Backyard has expanded to a full Southern-inspired menu with cocktails with extended hours Thursday through Sundays.

The couple started Rosie’s out of the kitchen of their Copper Door Bed & Breakfast in Overtown during the pandemic, and it became one of Miami’s favorite places to dine during the pandemic. They had to close the bed and breakfast but Rosie’s followed them on the weekends to their current weekday lunch spot, 7th Café in Allapattah.

They wanted to keep Rosie’s prominently in people’s minds before they renovate a home in Little River for its permanent location. They opened last weekend and their first Sunday served 150 people, the day after a tropical storm.

“It was great to know we’ve been missed and people were ready for us,” Ross said. “We never imagined it would grow to the point it did.”

This sit-down version of Rosie’s will allow West, a protégé of James Beard winner Michael Schwartz of Michael’s Genuine, to expand on the menu that made Rosie’s such a hit.

Expect the hits, like smoked salmon Benedict, crispy chicken and vanilla-nutmeg waffles with housemade pickles, delicate biscuits with apricot-lemon jam, rich house-smoked pastrami hash.

Add to that summer dishes like shaved fennel and bibb lettuce salads, cacio e pepe omelet with smoked prosciutto and deviled eggs with crispy chicharrones.

And as the brunch gods intended, there will be cocktails with West’s deft touch with flavors and a selection of natural wines. Seating for 70 will be available under a pair of banyan trees and awnings, to stave off the heat — all in the shadow of their future, upcoming restaurant in the house next door. Reservations are suggested.

“We’re ready to welcome them with our arms open,” Ross said.
