The best ‘beer spot’ in Florida is just a short drive from Miami, this website says
Choosing the best brewery in Florida is no small task, but one national publication took on the challenge and found its favorite spot in South Florida.
The website Eat This, Not That! (exclamation point theirs) set out to pick the best “beer spot” in every state, and named Funky Buddha Brewery in Oakland Park their favorite in our state.
“Funky Buddha Brewery offers everything from traditional styles to experimental ales, with the goal being to ‘make beers that create an experience’ and remind people to celebrate creativity and being different,” the website wrote.
Maple Bacon Coffee Porter, Blueberry Cobbler and No Crusts, which tastes like a peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich, are just some of the creative beers Funky Buddha has brewed.
Founder Ryan Sentz, a past guest on the Miami Herald food podcast La Ventanita, was among the first to brew these culinary-inspired beers, when he started in a strip mall in Boca Raton. But he and his brother, K.C. Sentz, expanded into a major brewery in Oakland Park, which was later bought by Constellation, the company that brews Corona.
Eat This’ list aims to highlight craft breweries, which are usually identified as smaller, independent breweries, which would seem to disqualify Funky.
But it’s not just the beer that caught Eat This’ attention. Funky Buddha has a massive taproom with a full kitchen, a covered area for games, even a private dining room.
“The atmosphere is awesome for going after work to grab a beer or taking a huge group of friends for your birthday party,” they quoted a Yelp reviewer as writing.
