La Ventanita podcast: A conversation with Alex Lacamoire of ‘Hamilton’ and ‘In The Heights’
La Ventanita, the Miami Herald’s food podcast, is back for another season, but this time in the form of a weekly live video podcast, where you can watch conversations with the most interesting people in food and pop culture give their hot takes about food and Miami.
James Beard award winner Carlos Frías, the Miami Herald food editor, and co-host Amy Reyes, Miami.com editor, focus on Miami and the people who make it special. On the first episode, we talked with Alex Lacamoire, the Kendall-raised musician who helped create the music to the hit musical, “Hamilton.”
Alex has been on a tear since “Hamilton.” He’s an executive producer on the Netflix film “Tick, Tick ... Boom!” starring Oscar-nominated actor and “Spider-Man” Andrew Garfield. He produced the music to the film and musical “In The Heights,” created the music to the cartoon “Vivo.” And this month, another musical he helped create, “Dear Evan Hansen,” comes to at the Arsht Center.
We talked with Alex about growing up in Miami, Hurricane Andrew memories, his terrible food take, what he cooks at home and how celebrity helped him land restaurant reservations.
And we asked him to play “Kiss, Marry, Kill” with croquetas, cafecito and pastelitos on this reboot of the podcast.
Tune in Thursdays at 11 a.m. to watch La Ventanita live, comment and ask questions during the interview.
