This Caribbean restaurant just parked a food truck at this waterfront Brickell spot
A new place for Caribbean food just set up shop in Brickell.
Manjay Restaurant, a staple at The Citadel food hall in Miami’s Little River neighborhood, has packed its pikliz and mofongo into a food truck and is now open along the waterfront area behind the First Miami Presbyterian Church.
The seating isn’t fancy — you sit at picnic tables under a tent — but the food is authentic. Owner Christian Dominique, who was born and grew up in Haiti, said sharing a taste of his childhood is his goal.
“One thing we try to do is put passion and integrity in what we do,” he said in a press release. “Manjay is really a combination of our general love of modern cuisine and of the authentic Caribbean flavors we grew up eating. Nothing compares to the flavors of home.”
Those flavors include the Big Up Bowls, served with banana payzay and Manjay pikliz and Mofongo My Way, served with crushed sweet plantains, garlic and Creole sauce. The restaurant’s popular Caribbean conch fritters are also on the menu, as are the jerk chicken wings and plantain fries.
No word on how long Manjay will stay at the location. In October, First Miami Presbyterian voted for a land sale that would allow an 80-story condo to be built on the property. The condo would replace the church’s waterfront surface parking lot and the Key Point Christian Academy.
Manjay, however, has other expansion plans afoot. A brick-and-mortar restaurant is planned for Wynwood; no date has been set for its opening.
