The Homestead farm has reopened right on time, as it does every year — the last Tuesday in October — pandemic or no. And with it, it brings the annual tradition of trekking south for the fresh-baked cinnamon rolls, pies, herb breads and housemade jams.
If you’re reading this and have been yearning for Knaus’ buttery-sweet cinnamon rolls, now is the time to hop into your car and head the farm, which opens Monday through Saturday, from October through mid-April (except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s).
That’s because by the weekend, its lines will be as legendary as its rolls. The first weekend of the farm’s opening draws every last person in Miami-Dade County — and nostalgia quickly can turn into hanger for those waiting in a line that can stretch to four hours long. Weekdays are definitely better for fueling a cinnamon bun fix, if you can manage to turn work-from-home to work-from-farm.
Heedless? If you’re hell-bent on going on a weekend, mind these tips: Bring folding chairs, plenty of water, a hat and don’t skimp on the sunscreen.
Also: cash. The farm doesn’t accept credit cards and the closest ATM is miles down the road.
