This Miami Beach favorite expands north with a relaxed vibe and Oprah’s favorite cake
The Icebox Cafe is bringing its chill north.
The Miami Beach restaurant has expanded across the county line into Broward and opened a new spot in Hallandale Beach, right over the border from Aventura.
Under a mural from local artist Captain Casual, diners can relax with what the restaurant calls an “approachable” menu and a full bar with cocktails, wine and more than 10 beers on tap. Expect casual fare like burgers and avocado toast as well as such entrees as braised short rib, chicken curry and Faro Island salmon.
And yes — you’ll be able to order the famous chocolate cake that Oprah raved about all those years ago. Order two slices, if you’d like.
“We are proud to open our latest location in Hallandale Beach, an area that is making a dedicated effort to bring food, art and culture to the community,” said Robert Siegmann, owner and founder of Icebox Cafe, in a press release. “As we adjust to a new way of eating, drinking and living, we look forward to welcoming locals and visitors alike to a new experience, menu and space design.”
That new design includes a greenhouse area filled with local art and a plaza for outdoor entertainment (future plans include live music performances and picnics).
