Forget cafecito: This Miami Mexican spot has a ventanita for margaritas and tacos
Have you ever dreamed of walking up to a ventanita and walking away with a margarita and some tacos instead of a colada?
Of course you have. Who hasn’t? And now La Tiendita Taqueria is here to make this dream a reality.
The Mexican restaurant in Wynwood features street tacos from Chef Nicolas Caicedo, corporate executive chef of The Dirty Rabbit Group (you have sampled his creations at The Dirty Rabbit, Dirty Burgers or Backdoor Monkey). He’s assisted here by Chef de Cuisine Erick Blanco.
La Tiendita serves a variety of classic Al pastor tacos, including the signature Birria taco, with slow-cooked brisket au jus and Oaxaca cheese. You can also order fried chicken tacos or quinoa shrimp tacos or carnitas tacos or poblano pepper and mushroom tacos. You will not lack for tacos. There are also salads, burritos and quesadillas on the menu.
Another specialty is chilaquiles with sunny side up eggs, refried beans, cheese, pico de gallo and a secret sauce. Even the churros are special, served warm with chocolate ice cream and Chihuahua and Huajaca cheese.
As for the margaritas, there are a variety to try: mango, passionfruit, tomate de arbol (blood fruit), tamarindo, coco, blackberry and avocado. We have never personally ingested an avocado margarita but we are willing to give it a try for journalism.
The drinks menu includes smoothies and beer as well as specialty cocktails. We’re eyeballing the Tulum Breeze, with mescal, fresh watermelon juice, mint agave and fresh lime juice, but there are other drinks available, like the Jalisco Mule (think Moscow Mule) and the Pancho Pina (tequila, pineapple, horchata, agave and lime, with the pineapple included).
You can get your tacos to go or eat at one of the outdoor tables. Don’t want to leave the house? The menu is also available for delivery.
