It’s time for mofongo: New Puerto Rican restaurant opens on Miami Beach

There’s a new spot for Puerto Rican food on Miami Beach

Now open, 100 x 35 Cocina con Raíces — named for the measurements of the island of Puerto Rico — sits in The Bentley Bay South on West Avenue.

The 150-seat restaurant, where seating is limited due to COVID-19 safety restrictions, will specialize in the most beloved menu items in Puerto Rico: Mofongo. Fried Snapper. Pork Chops.

You can start your meal with cod fritters (yes, please), cornmeal fritters or alcapurrias — and, if you’re feeling daring, a Caribbean inspired cocktail.

Owner Carlos Rodriguez, who was born and raised in Puerto Rico, will be collaborating with chefs Luis Vazquez and Emmanuel Jimenez.

“This is a dream come true,” said Rodriguez in a press release. “My professional experience has taken me from working in marketing and promotions to owning a 500-employee insurance company. This new project with two Puerto Rican chefs brings me back to my Puerto Rican roots (raices) and so the name of the restaurant.”

Takeout service is also available.
