Bahamian restaurant opens first U.S. location at Miami Beach food hall

Lincoln Eatery has a new restaurant, and it’s bringing a bit of the Bahamas to Miami Beach.

Created by owner and executive chef Laron Culmer, C Food Shack specializes in Caribbean seafood. This is the first U.S. location for the black-owned brand, which first opened in Nassau, Bahamas.

Culmer hopes to incorporate a bit of Latin flavor into his new menu.

“As a born and raised Bahamian who’s also lived in Florida, I have labeled my culinary style as Florribbean,” said Culmer in a press release. “When developing C Food Shack at The Lincoln Eatery’s menu, it was my goal to push the envelope and display the diversity of the flavors of the region with elements of its Caribbean neighbors.”

One of the secrets, Culmer says, is his secret citrus-chili marinade recipe that has been passed down for generations. All breaded menu items are marinated before cooking.

Expect island favorites like Bahamian conch salad and jalapeño cheddar conch poppers as well as what Culmer calls Fish in Da Bag, made up of grouper nuggets, fried conch and three jumbo fried shrimp tossed in a bag with homemade hand cut fries, guava ketchup, hot sauce and a coconut bread roll.

There’s a Surf and Turf burger with fried conch and bacon, a Floribbean fried conch pita plus three-cheese mac and cheese with your choice of lobster tail, jumbo shrimp, blackened mahi or mahi crab. We’re leaning toward lobster tail, but it all sounds good.

For dessert, check out the guava duff empanadas, a new twist on a favorite Bahamian pastry, or the cinnamon sweet potato empanadas with cream cheese and vanilla dipping sauce.
