Do you miss Sushisamba? Miami Beach’s glitzy sushi spot has a temporary home in Miami
When Sushisamba closed its doors on Lincoln Road last year, sushi lovers wept.
But now the restaurant has returned as a pop-up, partnering with Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill in Midtown Miami to serve up some of its famous specialties. And they’re just as pretty as they ever were.
Expect to see old favorites on the menu, including the El Topo roll (salmon, jalapeño, shiso leaf, crispy onion, spicy mayonnaise, fresh melted mozzarella and eel sauce); Neo Tokyo roll (tuna, tempura flake, aji panca); Salmon Seviche; and miso-marinated Chilean sea bass (with roasted organic vegetables and oshinko).
“Life has been turned upside down, and people just want what they know,” said Sugarcane owner Danielle Billera in a press release. “Miami knows Sushisamba. Miami loves Sushisamba. It’s great to have them back.”
The pop-up will be open indefinitely, and you can also indulge in Sugarcane’s menu and add items like Korean chicken wings or bacon-wrapped dates to your order. (Trust us: add the bacon-wrapped dates to your order.) The Midtown hot spot, which was created by Chef Timon Balloo, celebrated its 10th anniversary earlier this year.
Balloo remains a partner even though he opened his own restaurant, Balloo, which focuses on his Indian, Chinese and Trinidadian roots.
All menu items at Sushisamba and Sugarcane are available for curbside pickup or free delivery from noon-8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Order at sugarcanerawbargrill.com (use promo code DIRECT10 for 10 percent off).
