Publix sets special hours for older shoppers more susceptible to coronavirus
Publix supermarkets have designated special shopping hours for older customers who may be more susceptible to the effects of the coronavirus.
Starting March 24, shoppers exclusively ages 65 or older will be able to shop at all Publix grocery stores on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 7-8 a.m. The stores’ pharmacies will also open at 7 a.m. for seniors. The company said it referred to CDC research that indicates seniors are more susceptible to developing COVID-19 from the novel coronavirus.
“According to the CDC, individuals over the age of 65 are at increased risk of complications from the coronavirus,” the company wrote in a press release. “Publix is offering these expanded hours to better support our elder community.”
The Lakeland-based chain recently announced changes to its regular store hours. It is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. And its pharmacy hours are now 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, opening at 11 a.m. on Sundays.
