‘Iron Chef’ Morimoto is coming back to Miami with a new kind of restaurant
“Iron Chef” star Masaharu Morimoto wants a rematch with Miami.
This time the challenger is Wynwood. Morimoto is opening another outpost of his ramen restaurant and bar Momosan in Miami’s popular arts district this summer, according to a press release.
Morimoto tried his hand at South Florida with a more high-end restaurant, Morimoto South Beach, which lasted less than a year when it closed in September of 2015.
This time, Morimoto appears to be making his food more approachable. Momosan’s menu will focus on ramen noodles, grilled skewers and the kinds of comfort food dishes you’d find at an izakaya, a sort of Japanese pub. So also expect Japanese beers, sakes and whiskeys.
“I’ve been so impressed with Wynwood during my visits to Miami,” he wrote in a press release. “The vibrant scene here is a wonderful setting for my playful Momosan concept, which is all about enjoying ramen, yakitori, beer and sake in a fun, casual and energetic environment.”
Momosan first started in New York in 2016 and has expanded to restaurants in Waikiki Beach, Honolulu and Seattle. Boston, Brooklyn and San Jose will follow Miami’s opening.
