This local Publix is state-approved to sell you edibles (or legal pseudo-edibles)

Shopping will be more of a pleasure for some Publix customers now that at least one store has the now-required Hemp Food Establishment license from the state to sell hemp and CBD edibles.

That’s the Miami Beach Publix in the Sunset Harbour area of South Beach, 1920 West Ave. A Thursday focused inspection by the Florida Department of Agriculture announced the change:

“Food Establishment manufactures, processes, packs, holds, prepares or sells food products intended for human consumption that contain hemp, hemp extract, CBD or other cannabinoids. FE permit type changed to Hemp Food Establishment during this visit.”

The HFE permits became mandatory Jan. 1. Publix didn’t respond when asked if this was the only store in South Florida with an HFE permit. An online check of Florida Department of Agriculture records didn’t turn up any others in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach or Monroe counties.

Now, as for the strength of what Publix can sell versus what other, less regulated entrepreneurs might sell...

As defined by the state of Florida, “...Hemp has a total THC level that does not exceed 0.3% on a dry-weight basis. Marijuana has THC levels that exceed this amount.”

To each his own.
