Come for the paella, stay for the late-night party at this new Cuban-themed restaurant

Kuba Cabana, a new entertainment and dining concept, is many things in one. A coffee shop. A restaurant. A nightclub celebrating Cuban music, cocktails and dancing.

The restaurant, now open in CityPlace Doral, serves lunch and dinner in the former home of CityWorks. It’s a colorful 8,910-square foot space, with seating for 202. The idea: you come for dinner, you stay for a show. There’s music and dancing every night, some nights with a live band.

The menu includes small plates (like vegetable-quinoa croquetas with lemon hummus, crispy pork belly tacos and sweet and smoky duck eggrolls) and large plates (like crispy skin yellowtail snapper, grilled octopus, beef ramen noodles and roasted chicken with mojo Cubano).

Some of the sides add a Cuban influence: tostones, plantains, black beans and rice. But this being 2020, there are also crispy Brussels sprouts on the menu.

The restaurant also specializes in paella with different choices of meat. One features pork belly, chicken and chorizo; another includes shellfish and mahi. There’s also arroz con pollo, plus vegetarian paellas, one with roasted mushrooms, artichokes, parsnips, carrots, peppers, onions and peas.

The drink menu was also created with Cuba in mind. There are mojitos - a coconut mojito, even. But you can also order Caribbean-inspired cocktails like the Tropicana, with fresh orange, pineapple, mango, guava and lemon juice, Appleton rum, East imperial grapefruit soda and watermelon ice cubes. Or try the Nacional, with hibiscus, orange, cinnamon and clove mixed with Tito’s vodka and chinola passionfruit liquor.

Speaking of drinks, let’s not forget the most important one: coffee. The restaurant also has a coffee shop that opens at 7 a.m.
