Miami chefs to promote South Florida, equality in Costa Rica culinary trips

Miami chefs and South Florida Food 50 honorees Paula DaSilva (recently of 3030 Ocean) and Todd Erickson (Huahua’s, Haven) are leading upcoming weeklong culinary adventures at Arenas del Mar, a beachfront and rainforest resort along Costa Rica’s central Pacific coast. 

The guest chefs will work with resort staff to prepare multicourse dinners for guests; host cooking classes; organize rum, coffee and wine classes; and visit local spice and vanilla farms. 

“Our guest chefs work with our local chefs to discover local recipes and ingredients, and also pass on their own tastes and techniques, so as you can imagine there is a lot of creativity going on in the kitchen,” says Hans Pfister, president and co-owner of Cayuga Collection, which manages Arenas Del Mar. 

The eco- and culinary-tourism adventures are open to anyone, and the resort is hoping to draw in LGBT travelers with chefs DaSilva and Erickson.

DaSilva will be at Arenas del Mar from Sept. 6 through 10, and Erickson will be there Oct. 4 through 8. Room rates are $270-$310, and more information is available by emailing
