Brew in Miami wins first-place award from Society of Professional Journalists

Brew in Miami
Brew in Miami’s beer channel, Brew in Miami, earned a first-place honor for short-form blog writing in the 2015 Sunshine State Awards, organized by the Florida chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists

Brew in Miami, started in April 2014 to keep readers up to date on the craft beer scene in South Florida and beyond, is written by restaurants editor and Miami Herald food editor Evan S. Benn. It also includes a video series hosted by Benn and produced and edited by the Herald’s Karen Rundlet and Justin Azpiazu.

“Nice addition with the video, sidebar, quiz and link to Facebook comments; really adds to the blog itself, which was quick and easy to read,” contest judges wrote.

The Sunshine State Awards, presented this month in Miami, also included Miami Herald reporters Carol Marbin Miller and Audra D.S. Burch, who won the James Batten Award for Public Service, and Julie Brown, presented with the Gene Miller Award for Investigative Reporting. Herald reporters Jordan Levin and Jay Weaver placed first in arts reporting and in crime and courts reporting, respectively, and photographer Al Diaz earned a first place in breaking news photography for his Breath of Life image
