Who remembers Giacosa? Well the Coral Gables restaurant is coming back - sort of.
Chef Alfredo Alvarez of the long gone and much lamented Coral Gables hot spot Giacosa is opening a redux – of sorts – of the original this winter at the intersection of LeJeune and Valencia. M House by Giacosa will churn out coastal fare of Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece from a Josper charcoal oven. Wild caught Mediterranean fish will be flown in weekly.
Among the menu highlights: Wild Caught Lubina a la Espada, Alga Spirulina Tagliolini with Sicilian Prawns and Giacosa’s signature, a Vidalia Onion Stuffed with Patagonian Shrimp roasted in the Josper with a lobster bisque sauce.
The restaurant is being designed by renowned New York-based fashion designer, Angel Sanchez of Sanchez+Coleman, who’s going with an “urban meets tropical” design. M House by Giacosa will feature both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a bar and lounge area.
The M, incidentally, stands for Merrick, as in George E. Merrick, the man who planned and built Coral Gables.
