Soul food with a side of reality drama coming to this South Beach restaurant
Reality television stars love Miami even though reality TV doesn’t love them (see: Real Housewives of Miami). But how about a reality TV chef?
We’ll see soon enough when WE TV’s Hustle & Soul star, chef Lawrence Page, owner of Brooklyn soul food hot spot The Pink Tea Cup, opens one on Washington Avenue in South Beach sometime this winter, The Real Deal reported. The restaurant will be featured on the second season of Hustle & Soul Season 2. However, he is not opening the restaurant for the show, Briele Douglass, WE TV’s public relations manager said.
Page’s six-episode series followed the ambitious chef as he cooked up his soul food with a requisite side of drama.
“I never thought soul food would get me here,” Page told a crowd at his series screening in March, according to Black Enterprise. “I’ve made millions, lost millions, and been homeless. […] I lost my life savings behind The Pink Tea Cup, trying to become a chef. I didn’t realize how tough it was. I wasn’t educated about certain ingredients or techniques. I didn’t understand any of that. I didn’t even watch the Food Network.
“But I didn’t give up on it,” he continued. “I got through it. I got my weight back up. I got my money back up. The food is impeccable. I have a great staff. So, I think we’re winning.”
Page, who aspires to receive a Michelin star despite some tepid reviews, has leased a 5,500 square-foot space at 1542 Washington Ave., and hopes to open either in December or January, according to The Real Deal.
